Pendampingan Kelompok Wanita Tani dalam Peningkatan Kualitas Kopi Arabika Sindoro-Sumbing Melalui Inovasi Proses Roasting di Dusun Gemawang, Kabupaten Temanggung

Abstract

Dusun Gemawang, Bendungan Village, Tretep Subdistrict, Temanggung Regency is a production center for Sindoro-Sumbing Arabica coffee managed by the Women Farmers Group (KWT) Mekar Mandiri, consisting of 22 members. Initial surveys revealed that all members still sell coffee in the form of raw beans (green beans) without further processing, resulting in low market value. This community service program aims to enhance KWT’s capacity in coffee roasting and packaging techniques as an initial step toward establishing a small-scale community-based roastery unit. Activities were carried out through socialization, theoretical and practical training in roasting (traditional and semi-traditional methods), as well as mentoring in packaging and product labeling. Training effectiveness was measured using pre-test and post-test questionnaires with a Likert scale (1–5) across 13 indicators of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and entrepreneurial motivation. Results showed that 20 out of 22 members (≈91%) were able to independently understand and practice roasting. The average total score increased from 44.63 (moderate category) in the pre-test to 59.21 (high category) in the post-test, with an N-Gain of 0.72 (high category), confirming significant improvement in technical knowledge of roasting, while attitudes and entrepreneurial motivation had already been at a high level prior to training. This program also produced a pioneering roasted coffee product under the brand “Mekar Mandiri,” media coverage in TIMES Indonesia, and video documentation on the LP2M Universitas Jember YouTube channel. The program contributes to increasing the added value of smallholder coffee production and strengthening women’s roles in plantation agribusiness in rural areas.
