Edukasi Manajemen Keuangan Bagi Atlet Dayung Papua

Abstract

Financial management is an important aspect of supporting athletes’ independence, sustainability, and preparedness for their sporting careers. Athletes, particularly those at the development and competitive levels, may face challenges in managing income, allowances, training-related expenses, and financial planning. This community service activity aimed to strengthen financial management literacy among Papuan rowing athletes through an educational and participatory approach. The activity was implemented through several stages, including identification of participants’ financial management needs, delivery of educational materials, interactive discussions, practical financial planning exercises, and reflection. The educational materials focused on basic financial management, budgeting, distinguishing needs from wants, managing income and expenses, saving, and developing simple financial plans. The results indicated that the activity provided athletes with a better understanding of the importance of managing personal finances systematically and encouraged greater awareness of financial planning in relation to their sporting careers. The participatory process also enabled athletes to relate financial management concepts to their daily experiences and sporting activities. This activity implies that financial literacy education can become an important component of athlete development programs, particularly in preparing athletes to manage financial resources more responsibly and independently. Continued financial education and mentoring are recommended to support sustainable financial management practices among Papuan rowing athletes.
