The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into science education offers opportunities to improve laboratory-based learning and digital literacy. However, the utilization of laboratory facilities and digital technologies in Islamic boarding schools remains a challenge, particularly in developing interactive, inquiry-based, and technology-supported learning experiences. This community engagement program aimed to strengthen science learning quality and students’ digital literacy through the implementation of AI-Augmented Laboratory Learning within a Smart Education Ecosystem at Pesantren Darul Arifin Jambi, Indonesia. The program employed a training and mentoring approach consisting of needs assessment, program design, teacher and student training, implementation, mentoring, monitoring, evaluation, and sustainability planning. Activities focused on integrating AI-assisted learning, virtual laboratory simulations, digital learning resources, scientific experiments, and data-based assessment. The program outputs included an AI-Augmented Laboratory Learning model, AI-supported learning modules, digital practical worksheets, laboratory implementation guidelines, digital assessment instruments, and a Smart Education Ecosystem framework connecting teachers, students, AI learning assistants, physical and virtual laboratories, and digital learning platforms. These outputs provide a foundation for strengthening teachers’ technological and pedagogical competencies and encouraging students’ active participation in scientific inquiry. The program also established a basis for sustainable technology adoption and further development of digital learning practices. Continued mentoring and systematic evaluation are recommended to assess learning outcomes, scientific process skills, and digital and AI literacy.
